This could be a Coronavirus post but it's not really, even though, it is. Sort of. Because we are quarantined, I've been binge watching TV shows that I've always meant to give a chance but have never made the time. Now that we have the time, I've been watching Superstore. It's quirky. It's funny. It's a little bit, well, maybe, more than a little bit obscene. There's swearing albeit bleeped out and pixelated, but I know what they're saying. The current episode I'm watching is Season 4 Episode Major Crimes. In this episode, the manager, Glenn, steps down and the District Manager has hired her son. In the end, Amy played by America Ferrera gets the job because she blackmails the DM who she caught snorting cocaine. But that's not the point I'm about to make.
I was thinking a real megastore would not allow the DM to hire a family member for store manager. But then I got to thinking, of course, they could or would. Nepotism started in retail. Of course, if he wasn't qualified, then it would be wrong and an issue. This got me to thinking more. I expanded this thought to, you guessed it, our government.
What about our government?
First, we have a President, who is unqualified for that job. Second, he gave (or tried to give) his daughter, Ivanka, which he has been very vocal about his creepy incestuous feelings about her, a place in his cabinet, Advisor to the President. I would think that would be one of those cushy jobs that a President would give his girlfriend...ohhhh, I get it. Anyway, the question would still be is she qualified to advise the President on anything? Thirdly, he hired Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner, as Senior Advisor to the President. Again, on what does he advise Trump? How does he qualify for that position? That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Jobs or cabinet positions should be earned through qualifications or merit not by family affiliation, political favors or special interests. But that's not the way of the world. But it sure as hell should be.

I'm not going to get into his appointments. We know most of them are driven by money and favors performed. We know, but without proof. Things said and done in backrooms rarely come out into the light of the outside world. I say this: Look at his cabinet appointments. Look at their background. You decide if they truly have what it takes to fill that role.
I have no solutions to pose, just observations and a little criticism. All's well that ends well. Maybe.
Until next time, TTFN.
