As I had last left you, there were still a whole bunch of candidates. As of March 5, 2020, 26 candidates have dropped out of the race, and three major candidates are still seeking the nomination: Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Tulsi Gabbard. [Wikipedia] Tulsi Gabbard! That kid's got spunk and about a snow-woman's chance in hell to winning the nomination. Which leaves us to a head to head between Papa Joe Biden and Crazy Socialist Bernie Sanders. You know I'm drawn towards the crazy. However, Lizzie Warren is still on the Pennsylvania Ballot. I might "waste" my vote and throw it to her. It doesn't matter. It might already be decided by April 28. I took a "test" for which candidate best reflects my values/opinions.
Here's how it shook out:
Biden 12 (out of 20 issues)
Warren 12
Sanders 11
Gabbard 10
Now if Tulsi had committed to some of the issues, which she was 4 shy of, her score, if she and I agreed, could have been 14. I would have been back on the Gabbard wagon.
In November, I'm going to throw the switch to whoever is the Demo-candidate. All the other parties are wackadoos and can't be taken seriously. I've had enough of the Trump. If only he would keep his mouth shut (and let the real experts talk) and stop tweeting about everything, I'd be as fooled as the rest of his supporters to thinking that he's doing a great job.
But all of this is not why I'm jotting down these Bon Mots. What I'm pissed about is by time it's PA's turn at the primaries the field of 2,000 Democrat candidates is now down to 4 and one of those have dropped out (Warren). We, as a country, need to change this train wreck process.
First, like a National election, which in a sense, this is exactly what this is. It should be run by the state as a General Election but it should be held on the same date in ALL states. I suggest the third Tuesday in May or the second Tuesday in June. Candidates would not drop out after the first few primaries like many did. Klobuchar and Buttigieg dropped out right before Super Tuesday. People went to the polls and voted for them not knowing they've dropped out. It's an asinine system.
Secondly, they need to do away with this party convention hoopla, especially this Superdelegate crap. If a race is close between two candidates and neither has the majority to win the nomination in the first round, it could come down to the Superdelegates making the decision as they don't vote until the second round, which also the original delegates can change who they were designated to support. There's no absolute loyalty required. The Superdelegates "(make up slightly under 15% of all convention delegates) include party leaders and elected officials (PLEOs)." [Wikipedia]
I'll give you an example. The race between Bernie and Papa Joe is close. One of them may pull it out after this Tuesday, but it's possible it'll be close right up to the convention. Let's say for argument's sake the following exists:
There are 3,979 delegates and 771 Superdelegates. 1,991 are required to win the nomination:
Let's say after the first round the score was this (This assumes that the suspended and dropped out candidates receive no more delegates.):
Biden 1,889
Sanders 1,925
Warren 69
Bloomberg 61
Buttigieg 26
Klobuchar 7
Gabbard 2
Bernie leads but clearly, no one has the majority. In round 2, the 771 Superdelegates can throw their votes to whomever which could decide the whole shootin' match. As Biden is the DNC's favorite like Clinton was in 2016, the majority of those Superdelegates could push Biden to victory. This takes the decision and the will of the people out of our hands. That is complete bullspit!
Lastly, after doing away with the conventions and having a National Primary Day, the candidate that should represent their party should be based on the total votes they received as a nation regardless which state they reside. No minimum votes required. Whoever has the most votes, wins. This goes for all political parties. This process should also replace the Electoral College. The EC is a joke and not a funny one. It was designed by rich white landowners. Originally, it excluded common non-landowning men, people of color and women. Why would anyone want to hold on to such an antiquated broken system? We've adjusted the constitution over the lasts 200+ years through Amendments. This is one more thing that could be fixed.
So until next time, get out there and vote, even if it may not matter. TTFN.
