30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 13 - What Excites Me

Lucky Day 13 of the 30 day writing challenge. We're almost half way home.  "What are you most excited about?"

Ponies, pink frilly dresses, my black patent leather Mary Janes, okay, I'll cut the crap.  None of that excites me.  Not even close. One thing that doesn't excite me is my job with the soulless, heartless and faceless corporate slavers, where I live, near the seventh level of hell, or my social life which is a little meh at best.  At this stage of the game, there's not a whole lot that does get my engines revving.

I cheated (as I usually do) and read my sister's blog.  We're doing this writing challenge in tandem.   Without saying I sort of knew what she was going to write about, but I sort of knew.  And without copying her, I admit that I've had a string of crap luck too.  She's had it worse.  Not that it is a contest.  It would be one contest I would not want to win.  However, the end results are the same.  People and situations will endlessly disappoint you.  The arts usually won't.  I put my trust in literature, movies, TV and music.  Which is also what excites and motivates me.

As I had mentioned in this Facebook posting and blog, I was looking forward to the new Yes album, Heaven & Earth. It arrived in the mail from Amazon two days ago.  I usually purchase my media digitally, but when you pre-order you receive a deep discount and physical property.  No matter.  It was here two days after the national release.  I've listened to it everyday since and it has not disappointed me.  It's not far off from the Jon Anderson days of Yes.  Jon Davison has taken over the lead vocals reigns. The other four band members...

  • Steve Howeelectric, acoustic and steel guitars, backing vocals
  • Chris Squirebass, backing vocals
  • Geoff Downeskeyboards, computer programming
  • Alan Whitedrums, percussion

  • ...have been Yes members throughout the years over different renditions of the band.  As in true Yes fashion and tradition, there's only 8 songs just under an hour of music. Yes is known for having long epic songs much like Genesis and Renaissance, two other bands that excite my musical soul. Here's a sample.

Some other things I'm looking forward to is some of my summer programs. I'm enjoying The Bridge, Face Off, Halt and Catch Fire, Defiance and Masters of Sex.  I'm looking forward to Doctor Who Series 8, Beat Bobby Flay and Franklin & Bash coming later this month and August. I'm not sure what I'll be watching this fall.  Many of my favorites have completed the series or have been cancelled.

There are currently no movies on my radar. I'm finding as I get older there are fewer films that interest me. Considering I spend over $200 per month for cable, I can wait until it becomes available on TV or Netflix.

Next up: Day 14 - movies I never tire of watching

How The New Mexican Government And Prison System Failed Its People

Anyone who knows me knows I like mystery and crime stories, especially true crime. So, I am a huge fan and viewer of the Investigation Discovery network. I view many programs and have my favorites. One show I recently stumbled upon was "Surviving Evil" hosted by the stunning actress, Charisma Carpenter , who herself a crime survivor. She and two friends suffered at the hands of a violent serial rapist and police officer Henry Hubbard, Jr. on San Diego's Torrey Pines State Beach in 1991. I don't want to go on about her, her surviving her attack or even the ID program, which airs Thursdays at 9 pm and re-airs throughout the week and is available On Demand. Well, actually, I do want to speak about one episode from the current season (the 3rd season), but not the show as much as how the law failed to truly punish the perpetrator of this crime. The show titled "Escaping The Arroyo" interviews the one surviving victim and tells the horrific story about two whi...

    Toyotas

I had mentioned something about this in my post, Hate , but would like to embellish. I despise Toyotas. No, I hate Toyotas. I should clarify. I don't hate the vehicle. I'm presume that it's a well built commodity that everybody seems to own or want to own. And I'm sure it's more than just the very attractive spokesperson, Jan (Laurel Coppock), in the TV commercials. According to  Statista , in 2019, Ford and then Toyota were the most purchased automobile brands in the United States. Laurel Coppock (Jan from Toyota) I'd like to state (without evidence); 1 out of 5 drivers really suck at driving. When I say suck, I mean: They cut off other cars while lane changing,  They don't use turn signals,  They drive past dusk with headlights off, They speed, They tailgate, They run through red traffic lights and stop signs,  They are reckless and erratic, They crash (sometimes into each other, but mostly into other makes and models), They disrupt my life...

    ALL Reality TV Sucks

Hello, my friends. That's probably the nicest thing you'll read here in this blog today. Let's start with this post's title. You may agree with me. You may strongly disagree with me. I don't care either way. I have to stand up and say something. What the "Frank" is going on with the minds of the American public? I'm for entertainment. I enjoy the relaxation (most of the times) of television viewing. Lately, I'm finding less to watch. Is it my age? Maybe. Have my tastes change? Not really. Then why is there a lack of programs suitable for my viewing pleasure? Ahhh, there's the rub, Hamlet.  Reality TV. It seems you can't switch to a station that doesn't have their version of reality TV. TruTV has a bevy of World's Worse this and that. Not really reality TV and most of the times it is entertaining, but it illustrates and highlights the assholery (My word. Copyright. Copyright. Copyright. Don't try to steal it.) of the peo...
